Slim St Psychology
Evidence clearly indicates that psychological treatment is effective as a stand alone therapy for weight management, as well as significantly increasing the effectiveness of more traditional nutrition and exercise interventions. Currently, Slim St uses a combination of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) supported by Bibliotherapy (Book Therapy) and Hypnotherapy. Evidence indicates that CBT combined with Hypnotherapy is the most effective known treatment to help people manage their weight successfully for life. Book Therapy is also employed, with clients using the comprehensive Slim St Workbook to help achieve treatment aims and reinforce session content between face-to-face sessions.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is based on improving thinking processes (cognitive) and the actions that result from them (behavioural). For example, promoting the positive thought “What a nice day, I’ll go for a walk”, can encourage the positive action of walking, the best way most people release extra body fat. CBT also typically involves between session activities, so it is likely you and your psychologist will decide on something to do, read, or think about outside sessions to speed up the successful completion of your therapy. Slim St psychologists help clients develop and achieve realistic goals for their healthy behaviour and improve the thought processes that underlie the healthy behaviour, making improvements sustainable forever.
Hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy is done as an adjunct with willing clients to assist in achieving the outcomes of the primarily Cognitive-Behavioural work. Hypnotherapy completed is tailored very specifically to the client, but involves being guided into an altered state of consciousness where the mind is more open to accepting positive suggestions for change. Slim St psychologists use hypnotherapy in an ethical and respectful manner with willing clients to help achieve weight improvement that is sustainable for the long term.
Slim St trained psychologists.
The Principal Psychologist trains all Slim St psychologists personally to effectively help their clients successfully improve their weight forever. Unlike many psychologists, Slim St trained psychologists have an in-depth understanding of the psychology underlying eating, drinking and exercise behaviour. Slim St psychologists are trained to guide you in developing and achieving your weight management goals and any related issues you may want to discuss also.
