About the Principal
Glenn Mackintosh is the principal psychologist at Slim St – Weight Management Psychology. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and Queensland Board of Psychologists, and a fellow of the Obesity Prevention and Treatment Society.
After completing study at the University of Queensland, where he received joint honours in Human Movement Studies and Psychology, the Dean’s commendation for high achievement several times, and finished with a current GPA of 7, Glenn was awarded his Master of Psychology.
Glenn’s research involved analysing the relationship between psychological and social variables and weight change. In this research he developed a scale: the “Personal Motivation for Weight Loss Scale”, which was shown to significantly predict weight loss outcome.
Glenn is also involved in supervision and teaching, having supervised, lectured, and guest lectured in health psychology, sport and exercise psychology, performance psychology, psychology of injury, and self-esteem and motivation, at the University of Queensland, Griffith University, and the Australian College of Applied Psychology.
However, Glenn’s passion is in helping people improve their weight for life. He has assessed, presented to, and helped thousands of people in:
- One-on-one, couple, and family therapy settings
- Inpatient and outpatient treatment settings
- Multidisciplinary groups (involving dieticians, exercise physiologists, endocrinologists, general practitioners, personal trainers, diabetes nurse educators, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists and counsellors)
- Large medically-based weight management organisations
- Academic and professional domains
- Seminars to the health-conscious public
